THE USB-DMX512 CONVERTER
→ Functioning ←
General diagram:
The values of various channels DMX are received by the FT245BM circuit before being computed by the microcontrolor.
The converter is powered by the USB connector.
Description of the PIC18F452 microcontrolor:
The principal design features of this component are:
200ns of cycle time (technology RISC),
32 Ko of program flash,
1,5 Ko of RAM,
a 8 bits parallel port.
This component will be in charge of:
generating the DMX datas by following the DMX512 standard,
updating the DMX datas depending of the datas received by the USB module.
Description of the FT245BM USB converter:
This component manufactured by the FTDI company allows the interconnection of an electronic assembly with a PC through a USB port.
The most important features of this component are:
a data speed transmission up to 1Mo/s (USB V1.1),
a IN FIFO of 384 bytes width (PC to module),
a OUT FIFO of 128 bytes width (module to PC),
a lot of settings available to configure the USB communication (stored in an EEPROM).
This component will be in charge of managing the communication between the PC and the DMX converter,
The DLP Design Company proposes useful modules ready to use and avoiding any CMS soldering process. The module used by this interface has DLP245BM reference and looks like shown on this picture:
This module integrates all the needed components to manage the USB communication.
